Arizona's Immigration Bill

Arizona's new Immigration Bill is the product of a Mormon Legislator from Mesa - Senator Russell Pearce of Mesa (Republican).  He has been pushing this legislation and worse for years.  Now that we have a Republican Governor (Jan Brewer), he was finally able to have his way with this legislation.  The legislation bypassed the normal process by the use of a 'strike everything bill'.

That Russell Pearce is a racist is evident by his declaration on the house floor that English has been the official language of Arizona for 200 years! and elsewhere that "operation wetback" should be reinstituted.

His own autobiography statement exposes his racist motivations, stemming from his being shot. But more than that his son being shot by an 'illegal-alien':

"I have two sons in law enforcement, Colten with the Gilbert Police Department and Sean with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. My son, Sean was shot and critically wounded while serving a homicide warrant on an illegal alien on Dec. 16, 2004. What made this so unusual was that I was at the Brookings Institute talking about the nation’s failed immigration policies in Washington D.C. when I was handed a note, stating, "There is an emergency at home, call immediately." I stepped off the stage, found a phone and called home to find that my son had been critically injured and was being air-evacuated to a hospital." - Russell Pearce

This statement by Pearce, show's his racism.  While it is said that his son was shot, the fact that someone is an illegal alien does not make them a murderer.  His son could just as well have been shot by a 'white' man, or a legal hispanic American.  The fact is, all types of people commit murder.  Stereotyping a whole group of people because of one person's sins is racism. 

Pearce's "English as the Official Language of Arizona" bills show his racism as well.  Every other major and not so major language spoken commonly in Arizona is exempted except Spanish! While all Native American languages are exempted, Spanish is not.  This despite the fact that we took Arizona from both the Indians and the Mexicans and that Spanish is a language traditional spoken here.

Heritage Square Plaza Under Curfew

Police imposed curfew has arrived in downtown Flagstaff. The popular Heritage Square Plaza in downtown Flagstaff is now under curfew.  The city council has posted a sign stating among other things that it is illegal to be in Heritage Square at certain hours.  More here
