Here is a side by side comparison of Dirt Bike Trails and Non-Motorized Trails. See if you can guess which is which! (Roll your Mouse over the pictures to reveal the truth!)
ALL of the trails on the left are Pedestrian/bicycle trails. ALL of the trails on the right are Motorcycle trails! Obviously it is impossible to distinguish between trails used by Bicycles, Horses and Pedestrians and those which also experience Motorized Dirt Bike use. Perhaps the only important difference is that Pedestrian-only trails experience much more compaction which is worse for the soil. Dirt Bikes and Mountain Bikes provide a roto-tiller effect on trails, which leaves the soil loose, and thus able to recover more quickly. Follow this link for more about Erosion.
